Upper Eyelid Lift

The upper band false lashes can be one of the first areas of the face to signs of aging. Excess skin hanging over the upper eyelashes can make a person look and feel years older than they really are. Correction of this condition is a relatively simple procedure called an eyelid lift or blepharoplasty, that in most cases is considered cosmetic.

Upper eyelid surgery is one of the most common cosmetic procedures performed in our practice. This is because not only is aging of the eyelids one of the most common complaints we hear, but the surgery is also one of the more simple and inexpensive band false lashes procedures.

The main indication for an eyelid lift is dermatochalasis of the upper lid, or “hangy, droopy upper eyelid skin” as described by patients. This causes a sad, tired, and aged look. If the hanging skin is extreme enough to actually block vision, your health insurance will sometimes cover the surgery, however this is rare and may require a visit to your ophthalmologist to prove for them.

Good candidates for surgery are healthy patients with no significant history of band false lashes or irritated eyes, or other related eye conditions. The surgery can be performed relatively rapidly, requiring under 30 minutes in skilled hands. For that reason, most patients tolerate it very well with oral valium and local anesthetic. Deep IV sedation or general anesthetic just for upper eyelid surgery is rare.

Immediately before the procedure the surgeon will make markings on the upper eyelid. This is important to ensure that the scars will be well-placed and hidden and also that just the right amount of skin is removed.

An incision is made in the natural skin crease and the excess skin is removed. band false lashes the skin is a muscle layer. A thin strip of muscle is removed to shape the upper lid and prevent bunching. Beneath the musle is a fatty layer. Occasionally there is excess fat in the middle portion of the upper lid or near the nose. This may be removed. The surgeon uses gentle cautery to seal any tiny blood vessels in the field. The skin edges are then carefully closed with suture.

Recovery time is about one week, however patients may resume many activities the next day. Cold compresses are recommended, however bruising from upper eyelid surgery alone is generally very mild if at all.

Possible complications of upper eyelid include lagophthalmos or difficulty with lid closure (very rare), under correction (not enough skin removed), dry eye, or blurry vision (usually resolved over several days).
